ASU music ensembles are open to students from all academic majors, university-wide.
The ASU Gospel Choir is a vocal ensemble open to students and community members regardless of their faith. The ensemble performs a variety of song forms drawn from the African American religious tradition, including traditional and contemporary gospel, anthems, hymns, and spirituals. The Gospel Choir maintains an active performance schedule at both on and off campus events. An audition is not required to participate.
The Choral Program in the ASU School of Music offers ensembles for singers at a variety of skill levels and welcomes all ASU students, faculty, staff and community members into its various choirs. You do not have to be a music major to sing in an ASU choral ensemble. Learn more about our Choral Program.
Community members are welcome to join!
Tuesdays and Thursdays
Only new members need to audition.
Audition Date: Placement auditions occur the first two rehearsals of the semester: Thursday, August 22, 2019, and Tuesday, August 27, 2019, during the designated ensemble rehearsal time from 4:30 - 5:45 pm. Auditions may be done in a group setting, so you should plan to remain for the duration of the rehearsals. Auditions take place in Gammage 301.
Schedule an Audition: You don’t need to arrange a time, simply come to the first and second audition days (the first two class meetings of the semester). You may contact the director with questions: Jason Thompson (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Audition-Day Instructions: Auditions generally consist of vocalizing, pitch-matching and learning a gospel tune along with the ensemble. During the audition, you may be asked to sing the part you learned with singers from other sections of the choir. You do not need to prepare anything for the audition.
