The faculty are recognized, active composers whose music represents a wide variety of genres, ranging from chamber to orchestral, acoustic to electronic.
The composition and theory program in the ASU Herberger Institute School of Music at Arizona State University fosters students to develop the the technical, creative and critical-thinking skills necessary to pursue a meaningful career in music composition or music theory. The faculty are nationally and internationally recognized, active composers or theorists whose musical interests represents a wide variety of genres and areas including chamber and orchestral music, experimental performance, music perception and cognition, queer studies, interdisciplinary collaboration, acoustic ecology, electroacoustic and acousmatic music, experimental popular forms and more. The School of Music offers the Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition with a concentration in composition or a concentration in theory, the Master of Music in Composition and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition. In collaboration with the School of Arts, Media and Engineering, the School of Music jointly offers a concentration in interdisciplinary digital media in either the Master of Music or Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition.
