The School of Music at Arizona State University has, for many years, been the home of one of the leading brass programs in the country. Excellent student ensembles, facilities and a world-class program of study make studying brass at ASU one of the best educational bargains in the nation.

Our performance faculty are outstanding and recognized internationally for their teaching and performing. The brass faculty includes David Hickman, trumpet, John Ericson, horn, Brad Edwards, trombone, and Deanna Swoboda, tuba/euphonium. In addition, visiting artists enrich the study program for the students in the brass area. A number of prominent performers have been recent guest artists/clinicians at Arizona State University.

Our graduates hold important positions in major orchestras, universities and public and private schools around the world. Bachelor’s degrees are offered in music performance, music education and music therapy. Master’s and doctoral degrees are offered in performance.

There are many opportunities for motivated brass students to perform in large ensembles, like-instrument ensembles, and chamber ensembles. Orchestral works performed in recent years include major works of Beethoven, Brahms, Hindemith, Mahler, Respighi, Strauss and Tchaikovsky.
