Over the summer, School of Art Visiting Professor Chris Colville was featured in several exhibitions all over the world. While some exhibits presented work that challenged the definition of photography, others explored the relationship humans have with nature. His series Works of Fire, which was created by igniting gunpowder on light sensitive photographic paper, was a highlight of several shows. The exhibitions included: Not Kansas: photographers explore their own world, at the Penland School of Craft in Penland, NC; Surface Tension located at the Center for Photography in Woodstock, NY; Terra Cognita, the Noorderlicht International Photofestival in the Museum Belvédère, Netherlands; http://ignant.de/ , a Danish design blog; and http://platestopixels.com/, a website by Blue Mitchell, a national juror and curator, that focuses on experimental fine art photography.
