Erin Kong, a Bachelor of Musical Theatre student who is studying under professor of voice David Britton, was named No. 1 in a top 10 list of student bloggers on, a musical theatre website.

She was chosen for her detailed ">account of singing backup vocals alongside famed vocalist and actress Kristin Chenoweth. Kong, along with a group of other ASU School of Music students, joined Chenoweth during her performance with the Phoenix Symphony at the end of May.

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was made possible thanks to the Lyric Opera Theatre’s partnership program with Phoenix Theatre, and all of the students involved were excited to be part of this special event.

“It is an absolute honor being named No. 1 student blogger,” Kong said. “It was very surprising, and I am so fortunate to be able to share the accomplishments of LOT (Lyric Opera Theatre) students with the rest of the world.”

Kong has been making the most of her writing skills by taking whatever opportunities come her way. “I am currently a part-time reporter for ASU’s student-run paper, The State Press, I run my own poetry blog and am working on a novel,” she said. “I hope to continue absorbing as much as possible about the craft and want to go as far as my writing abilities will take me."
