Nancy Buck, Associate Professor, Music 2008-06-01 Nancy Buck is an associate professor of viola in the ASU Herberger College School of Music. She is the host chair of the 36th International Viola Congress, which runs June 4–8, 2008. The Congress is dedicated to violist and ASU Professor Emeritus, William Magers and brings viola players from around the world to the School of Music on the ASU Tempe campus for performances, lectures, master classes, seminars and exhibitions. More than 50 violists are scheduled to perform in five days, and over 20 luthiers and bow makers will display their wares. Of the many offerings, the Congress sessions promote excellence in viola performance, premiere new compositions written for viola, further research and scholarship opportunities, and showcase emerging talent. Pre-college violists have their own day to participate and perform during the Bratsche Resources and Teaching in the Schools (BRATS) program. "It is the only event of its kind in the world, and it is a great honor to be selected as the host chair," Buck says. "The Congress showcases everything about the viola, bringing people together to add to the unique and vibrant history of our beautiful instrument." Nancy Buck’s bio
