Baruch Meir, Associate Professor, Music

Baruch Meir, associate professor of piano in the ASU Herberger College School of Music, was nominated by his students and selected as Distinguished Nominee by the ASU Parents Association for the 2008 Professor of the Year. Meir also was a nominee for the prestigious Charles Bronfman Award by the Bronfman Foundation. The prize celebrates the vision and talent of an individual or team 50 years of age or under, whose humanitarian work has contributed significantly to the betterment of the world. Its goal is to bring public recognition to young, dynamic individuals whose Jewish values infuse their humanitarian accomplishments and provide inspiration to the next generations.

Meir maintains a class of 19 outstanding piano students from all over the world. Many are recipients of scholarships and awards, including First Prize at the 2007 Washington International Piano Competition and First prize at the 2008 Schimmel USASU Senior Piano Competition for Young Pianists held at ASU.

Baruch Meir, associate professor of piano in the ASU Herberger College School of Music, was invited during March 2008 to perform solo recitals for the National Concert Season in Serbia, organized by the Serbian government. He performed five solo recitals in towns throughout Serbia, including Nis, Smederevo, Sabac, Somber and Arandjelovac. Additionally, Meir served as member of the jury at the Serbian Nis International Piano Competition. Meir also performed recitals at the Bösendorfer Concert Series in Portland and at the Tulane Festival in New Orleans.
