Bio: Richard Mook holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with high research in music and religion from the University of Rochester and a PhD in music history from the University of Pennsylvania. He was awarded the Lise Waxer Prize from the Society for Ethnomusicology for his research on the history of barbershop quartet singing, and his research has appeared in the Journal of the Society for American Music. Dr. Mook's current research projects include a book-length study of American quartet singing in the 20th century and a study of hip hop culture in Phoenix. His research interests include race and gender in American popular and vernacular musics.
