Prospective Graduate Students

As a graduate student in the ASU Herberger Institute School of Music, you have many opportunities to perform and broaden your skills through participation in Jazz Studies classes and ensembles. Take time to explore your options.

Master of Music in Music Education degree:

The Master of Music in Music Education degree provides opportunities to pursue an advanced degree in education with a jazz studies emphasis. As an applicant, you should hold an undergraduate music education degree or a valid K-12 teaching certificate.  A master’s degree plus certification option also is available.

Master of Music in Performance degree in Jazz Studies:

The Master of Music in Performance degree in Jazz Studies is intended for experienced students with a strong background in jazz performance, improvisation, composition, and arranging.  This degree allows the advancing performer further, in-depth study in jazz while also focusing on pedagogy.
