Electronic Classroom

The Electronic Classroom opened in 1992 when the ASU Herberger College School of Music doubled its existing facilities. Equipped with networked computers, MIDI devices, recording equipment and specialized software, the Electronic Classroom functions as a tool for teachers to integrate digital technology into the classroom.

Each workstation is equipped with state-of-the-art Macintosh computers. All stations have multi-timbral MIDI Alesis QSR sound modules, keyboard controllers and a audio recorders. Almost all periphial equipment can be controlled from the computer, permitting simple and precise editing, mixing and synchronization. In the classroom, students work not only with industry standard programs for general computing needs, but also use professional music applications such as Opcode's Studio Vision Pro, Galaxy, OMS, Sibelius, and Coda Music's Finale.

Music theory and ear training classes use the Electronic Classroom to work with software that is designed to enhance these skills vital to any musician. ASU music history tutorials are used extensively as a valuable study supplement for both undergraduates and graduate students seeking to review their knowledge of the history of music. The classroom is also available to non-music majors who are taking distance learning courses offered by the Herberger College of the Arts.
