Marimba Maderas de Comitan

Marimba Maderas de Comitan (MUP 387/587 Marimba) is the ASU Herberger College School of Music’s Latin Marimba Ensemble. Students and community members learn and perform Latin popular dance music from the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, South America and African pop, using two large Mexican marimbas. Each instrument is played by several persons and Latin percussion, including congas, bongos, maracas and timbales are also used.

We also sing in Spanish, Portuguese and other languages, and learn the dances. All teaching and learning is by ear, and no experience is required to participate in the ensemble.

Rehearsals: Wednesdays in WB10 from 5:15-6:45 p.m. As a student, you receive one credit and the rehearsals continue each semester.

For more information, contact director Ted Solis or call 480.965.8612.
