ASU String Project Received Special Recognition Grant
The ASU String Project, under the direction of Dr. Margaret Schmidt, received a special recognition grant from the American String Teachers Association and a national string project consortium grant from String Letter Publishing. These grants helped fund the work of the String Project. Fourteen undergraduate string education majors taught classes and private lessons to 129 children from area public, charter and home schools. String education majors receive coaching as they practice teaching techniques learned in music education classes, and appreciate the hands-on experience with real children, one third of whom receive tuition scholarships funded by the grants. Parents are enthusiastic about their children’s participation in the String Project–for many of them, the classes and concerts represent their first visits to the ASU campus.
Dr. Margaret Schmidt, assistant professor of music education, directs the ASU String Project, which is a project that allows string music education majors teach students throughout the year.
