Escape to the School of Music for 2007-2008 concerts and performances
Expand your music experience during the 2007-2008 Herberger College School of Music performance season. Outstanding faculty, internationally acclaimed guest artists and exceptional students bring you some of the best entertainment in the state. The season begins Sept. 20 and presents extraordinary operas, musicals, and organ, jazz, band, orchestra, choir and guitar concerts.

All productions are economically priced and subscription packages are on sale now through July 11. Patrons can save up to $8 per show by taking advantage of packages that are designed to fit every lifestyle and budget. Single tickets go on sale July 12. Prices for single tickets vary by show. Jorge Caballero

Praised by the New York Times for his “illuminating clarity and touching gracefulness,” Peruvian guitarist Jorge Caballero is regarded as one of the most remarkable young guitarists to have emerged during the past decade.

Xufei Yang
Feb. 23, 7:30 p.m.

The young Chinese virtuoso Xufei Yang is a rising star who enthralls audiences throughout the world with her dramatic interpretations and technical prowess on the guitar.

Big Band Blast Off

Chicago’s hardest working drummer, Joel Spencer, and the ASU Jazz Repertory

Jazz Repertory Band performs some of their forgotten treasures, as well as better

Bop Until You Drop

East coast saxophonist Greg Abate provides proof beyond doubt that bebop is alive and well as he ignites the stage with the ASU Concert Jazz Band and Jazz Combos.

The Music of Oscar Peterson

Michael Kocour and piano students in the ASU Jazz Studies program pay homage
to this giant of jazz piano. The program includes selections from Oscar Peterson’s Bursting Out CD featuring big band arrangements by Ernie Wilkins.

Trombonist Curtis Fuller

Curtis Fuller recently was named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and is one of original members of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. He kicks off Jazz Week 2008 with the ASU Jazz Repertory Band and members of the ASU Jazz Faculty for an evening of jazz with soul.

Vocalist Mark Murphy

She Loves Me

Funny, intelligent, honest and sentimental, She Loves Me is a romantic musical comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance. It’s nostalgic, but relevant as ever in this age of Internet romances.

Urinetown
April 18, 23 & 26, 7:30 p.m.; April 19-20 & 26-27, 2 p.m.
Paul V. Galvin Playhouse, 51 E. 10th St., ASU Tempe campus.
Set in the not-too-distant future in the wake of the privatization of water, Urinetown musically mocks and celebrates the healthy tension between corporate greed, water conservation and an impassioned revolution sparked by fees for public toilets. This project is a collaboration between the School of Music Lyric Opera Theatre program and the School of Theatre and Film.

Luisa Fernanda

This Spanish zarzuela takes place during the Spanish revolution and involves the story of dueling suitors and a fickle heart. Sung in Spanish with English supertitles.

Giulio Cesare

Sibling rivalry reigns supreme in this operatic tale of intrigue and betrayal as
