Director's Letter

Welcome to the Spring 2006 edition of eNotes!  This issue features the many activities of the faculty and students, as well as reports on outstanding alumni.  I am pleased to announce that the Juilliard String Quartet will join us next academic year as the second world-class chamber ensemble in our string quartet residency series. Throughout this year many of our activities have been focused around the celebration of the 250th birthday of Mozart and the school offered more than 50 events in this year-long series. We are sad to say goodbye to long-time composition faculty member Randall Shinn and Herberger College dean, J. Robert Wills as they retire from the university.  This edition introduces you to the new dean, Dr. Kwang Wu Kim.  I will also be leaving my position as director of the School of Music at the end of June to return to our conducting faculty. I have been honored by serving as director for the past six years and look forward to returning to the classroom and concert hall. Thank you to all of you who have supported the School of Music in the past. I look forward to seeing you again next year.
