Director's Letter
The School of Music is amidst another busy year of events and programs. As you will see in this issue of e-Notes we are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart throughout the year with a series of lectures, concerts, films, and exhibits. We also celebrate with a special concert, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great trumpeter Rafael Méndez, whose memorabilia and music is housed in the School of Music's Rafael Méndez Library.
The student body continues to grow in quality and size, this year numbering more than 840 music majors! This makes ASU the fifth largest accredited music school in the nation.
We have added several new faculty members, and I invite you to read about them in the New Faculty section of this issue.
The school has expanded its curriculum internationally by securing agreements for study abroad with the Nacional Conservatorie de Mexico in Mexico Citya and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore.
I wish to draw your attention to the School of Music Friends of Music Web site, http://music.asu.edu/community/friendsofmusic. Annually, this group of patrons financially assists many of our music students by providing much-needed scholarship funding. I ask you to join Friends of Music, and help us help these talented young students.
As always, I hope to meet you at one or more of our spring events.
Wayne Bailey
Director, School of Music
