We have welcomed a number of new faculty members to our School this fall and they have already begun to make a very positive impact on our students and the School of Music. I hope you will take time to read the article in this issue of eNotes about their background and expertise. The School had an exciting role in the inauguration of our new President, Dr. Michael Crow. On Tuesday, November 5, we performed a "collage" concert featuring many of the School's ensembles and faculty performers. Then on Friday, November 8, a number of our faculty and seven of our university ensembles participated in the inaugural ceremonies. We are very grateful to our donors who have made a number of special projects, scholarships, and guest artists possible this year. Without their support the School would be unable to offer such an outstanding program to our students and community. This issue begins a new series featuring a special friend of the School. These community members assist us in many ways. David Katzin has been a loyal friend of the School for years, and I hope you enjoy getting to know a bit about him and his interest in music. As the state continues to struggle with adequate funding of higher education, we continue to ask for your support in order to keep the School of Music one of the finest schools in the nation.
