Letter from the Director of Choral Performance

Choral performance involves a balance of language preparation, vocal skill, rehearsal management, period practice and stylization, and professional concert production. ASU's choral program is committed to honoring the excellence of yesterday, creating new experiences today, and mentoring the talent of tomorrow.

To honor the legacy of Douglas McEwen's tradition of fine choral music making at ASU, we recognize a distinguished alumnus with the annual "Douglas R. McEwen Award for Choral Excellence." Recipients include: Jeffrey Harris, Charles Smith, Jerry Ann Alt, Galen Darrough, Z. Randall Strope, and Richard Nance.

In addition to participating in the diverse music offerings at ASU, the students in the choral program have had collaborative opportunities with The Phoenix Symphony Chorus, The Phoenix Symphony, American Choral Directors Association, and The National Collegiate Choral Organization, to name a few. Please feel free to explore the information available at the School of Music online, and refer to this website often for new and updated information.

Sincerely,
Dr. Gregory Gentry
