Looking for Entrance Auditions?

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for our ensembles at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Many performance opportunities are available for both current ASU students and community members. For choral ensembles, the majority of auditions happen during the first week of school.

FALL 2009 CHORAL AUDITIONS

You do not have to be a music major to sing in an ASU choir - All majors are welcome!

Audition scheduling begins on Monday, August 17, when sign up sheets are posted on the bulletin board near the Choral Office: Music Building, W-139. Students should sign up for a time slot. Auditions will be 5 minutes in length and take place in the Evelyn Smith Musical Theater: Music Building, east wing, first floor. Community members and ASU Staff may telephone Dr. Gregory Gentry to schedule an audition: 480.727.3605.

Please read “Audition FAQs” (Frequently Asked Questions) on the Herberger Institute School of Music choral area website. Also read descriptions of the various ensembles to determine what group might best match your abilities, interest and schedule.

The fall 2009 audition schedule is as follows:

Sunday, August 23: 2:00 – 5:00 and 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Monday, August 24: 9 a.m. – 12 noon, 1 – 5 p.m., 7 – 9:30 p.m.

Tuesday, August 25: 9 a.m. – 12 noon, 1 – 5 p.m., 7 – 9:30 p.m.

Wednesday, August 27: Overflow auditions and posting of rosters

FIRST REHEARSALS

Symphonic Chorale (undergraduate division): Wednesday, August 28, 12:55 – 2:25 p.m.,  in Gammage 301

Choral Union: Tuesday, August 25, 7:15 p.m., Murdoch 201

Men's Chorus: Wednesday, August 26, 11:50 a.m. – 12:40 p.m., Gammage 301 (Note that this is a special first rehearsal. Please come even if your assignment to the group hasn’t been finalized.)

Women's Chorus: Wednesday, August 26, 3:05 – 4:20 p.m., Gammage 301 (Note that this is a special first rehearsal. Please come even if your assignment to the group hasn’t been finalized.)

Chamber Choirs (Early Music and Vocal Jazz): Come by or call the Choral Office for an audition appointment.
